5 Ways To Take The Emotions Out Of Selling Your Home

5 Ways To Take The Emotions out of selling your home

Has the time come for your to break up with your current home and move onto that dream home you’ve been eyeing for years?  Or maybe you’ve outgrown your home and it’s time to leave the nest of where you raised your babies.  Whatever the reason is you are planning to sell its often time and emotional transition.  Even though you are excited to move onto the next chapter closing the door on an old chapter in your life can be tough.  Today I am going to share with you 5 ways that you can keep your emotions in check when selling your home.

#1 Make Sure You Are Ready To Sell

Ask yourself WHY are you selling? Make a list of reasons why you truly want to move. There are many reasons why people decide they need/want to sell. So jot down a list and see if the pros of moving out way the cons.

#2 Prepare For The Selling Process

When you put your home on the market it opens it up for scrutiny. Buyers and Realtors will likely give feedback that you may or may not agree with. The inspection process will also detail out the flaws that maybe you don’t see in your home, but ultimately the buyer might. One thing you need to remember that although this is personal it is really a business transaction. Do your best to not take things personally.

#3 Price Your Home Correctly

When its time to sell your home sellers are often tempted to over price their homes because they truly think their home is worth more and better than any other home on the market. However that is the emotional brain taking over. Remember when you decide to sell your home your business brain needs to take over to make logical decisions. The best way to determine the price of your home s to consult work with a professional Realtor who can evaluate the comps in your area to help you price your home at fair market value. And please take your Realtors advice they know more than Zillow. Remember Zillow is a computer algorithm that only takes into account what data tells them (for example size of home and area its in. It doesn’t take into any upgrades done to the homes, location of the homes, lot size of the homes etc). An actual human can always give you more accurate numbers than a computer algorithm.

#4 Think Of Your Home As a Product to sell

When you put your home on the market it opens it up for scrutiny. Buyers and Realtors will likely give feedback that you may or may not agree with. The inspection process will also detail out the flaws that maybe you don’t see in your home, but ultimately the buyer might. One thing you need to remember that although this is personal it is really a business transaction. Do your best to not take things personally. While you have lots of sentimental memories from living in your home a potential buyer is looking at the home quite differently. Try to put yourself in their shoes and examine the houses attributes and imperfections. Highlight the best features, but also correct anything that may detract the value.

#5 Be Flexible When Negotiating

Negotiations are rarely easy. This tends to be one of the most stressful parts of the process. Remember all negotiations involve give and take, which means one party will always cone out on top while the other must concede even if that concession is nominal. Being flexible will help you close the deal.
The best advice when moving on from one house to the next is to focus on the future. Chances are, you’re moving on to bigger and better things. So dream big. Start visualizing yourself in your new home. Do everything you can to fall head over heels for your new space. It may seem impossible but eventually you will become just as attached to your new house as you are to the old one.
